It's a goal that the company has been striving to attain for decades. At last, the achievement is in the books. This month, the Pittsfield Fab Shop, the Baltimore Fab Shop, and the Pittsfield Coating Facility all were able to say that they had gone at least one year without a recordable injury. Company leaders are singing the praises of the CFCC team, while modest team members are saying it's all in a day's work.

The third shipment of Cianbro refinery expansion modules is unloading in Port Arthur, Texas. The barge-load of modules swung into place at the dock on Wednesday, August 26, after crews unloaded a shipment of pressure vessels from Mexico. Severe thunderstorms forced a delay in the dockside work in the afternoon, but crews were able to get the ramps set for the barge, Columbia Boston, as planned.

An extensive period of heavy lifting is underway at the Brightman Street Bridge replacement project in Fall River and Somerset, Massachusetts. Among the latest impressive picks: The North Heel Girder of the South East Leaf. The Girder with the Trunion Hub assembly, Trunion Bearings and Pinion Rack weigh 350,000 pounds. The pick was made by utilizing two 4100S3 ring cranes, one mounted on Cianbro Flexi Floats and the other mounted on the Cianbro Respect Barge. The girder was lowered into the bearing housings, which were aligned to a precision of plus or minus two-thousandths of an inch.

This past Wednesday, August 12, Cianbro’s Baltimore Fabrication Facility was audited and certified by the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) to produce Major Steel Bridges. Additionally, the Baltimore operation received from AISC a Fracture Critical endorsement. Baltimore now has all certificates and endorsements available, a total of five, and is qualified to produce any building or bridge framed with structural steel.

Cianbro has achieved PCI (Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute) Certification S2 status. The achievement is the result of the company having met the erection requirements and having completed a Field Quality Audit Report and an Erector's Post Audit Declaration for our Primary Erection Crew(s) during the Eastern Maine Medical Center parking garage project.

A second shipment of wind turbine blades is scheduled to arrive in Rockland, Maine today. The four 123 foot blades are destined for Vinalhaven Island, where Cianbro is building three wind turbines for Fox Islands Wind, LLC. The first shipment of blades arrived safely Wednesday in Carver's Harbor on Vinalhaven. As islanders and bystanders watched and cheered, crews unloaded the two tractor-trailer loads of blades and sent them up to Cianbro's jobsite.

The first four wind turbine blades, destined to stabilize the energy supply on Maine's Fox Islands, arrived in Rockland Tuesday after a smooth seven hour journey by truck. The four 123 foot blades departed Eastport in a two-truck convoy escorted by State Police cruisers. Cianbro Transportation Supervisor Nick Arena said, "We had no problems. We had a plan in place and plenty of preparation, and the plan worked well. It was an uneventful job, and I think that's what we want."

The latest shipment of refinery expansion modules is scheduled to cast off from Cianbro's Eastern Manufacturing Facility bulkhead in Brewer, Maine this afternoon. the ocean-going tug, Emma Foss, with the module laden barge, Columbia Boston, will depart Brewer at approximately 1:30 p.m. The voyage to Motiva's refinery in Port Arthur, Texas is expected to take about two weeks.

Nine 123 foot long turbine blades are scheduled to travel on oversized trailers from Eastport to Rockland this week, to be installed at the Fox Islands Wind project on Vinalhaven. The blades will arrive in two shipments. The first convoy, consisting of two trucks, is scheduled to leave Eastport on Tuesday, August 11, at approximately 8 a.m. The trucks will use Route 1 to Belfast. From there the convoy will travel onto Route 3 to Route 32, and then enter Rockland on Route 17 at approximately 1:00-2:00 p.m. The route through Rockland will take the shipment onto North Main Street to Cedar Street to Front Street. The blades will be delivered to the Prock Marine yard at 69 Front Street in Rockland. On Wednesday, the shipment will be loaded onto a barge in preparation for cast off at 12:45 p.m. The vessel will be taken across to Vinalhaven, where the cargo will be unloaded at Carver's Harbor.

This week, Leica Geosystems, the developer of the High Definition Surveying (HDS) equipment used by Cianbro engineers, has recognized Cianbro's Site Geomatics HDS Program to be one of the top 30 HDS applications in the world. As a result, three of Cianbro's HDS engineers have been invited by Leica to present our company's HDS program at the annual HDS user conference in San Ramon, California at the end of October. "This is a great feat and opportunity for our program, and exposure for our corporation worldwide," says Seth Goucher, Chief Field Engineer at the Motiva Modules project at Cianbro's Eastern Manufacturing Facility in Brewer, Maine. "Several survey discipline magazines will be at the conference, as well as the top HDS users in the world. It is not uncommon to see several thousand people attend the conference. More than likely, our Cianbro team will be presenting to 300 or so top experts in this field."
