BALTIMORE, Md. — Cianbro’s Mid-Atlantic Fabrication & Coating Facility was recently certified by the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC). One of the East Coast’s largest and most diversified construction and construction-services companies, Cianbro has operated in the mid-Atlantic region for over 24 years. Cianbro’s mid-Atlantic headquarters is located in Baltimore, Maryland, on Pittman Road. In 2002, Cianbro purchased a nearby 76,000-square-foot fabrication and coating facility with a 21-acre waterfront lot on Curtis Bay. Neighboring a United States Coast Guard Station, the marine facility also includes Cianbro’s regional offices where more than 250 team members serve a wide variety of public and private clients from Pennsylvania to Virginia. “AISC certification is a credit to our fabrication and coating team’s ability to take on a challenge,” said Mike Hart, Cianbro vice president and general manager of the company’s Baltimore-based operations. “Congratulations on your success in this rigorous program,” said Bobbi Marstellar, AISC vice president of certification. “Cianbro is certified by the American Institute of Steel Construction to have the personnel, organization, experience, capability, and commitment meeting the requirements of the Standard for Steel Building Structures and Simple Steel Bridges with Sophisticated Paint Endorsement-Covered categories as set forth in the AISC Certification Program.” Cianbro’s investment in this mid-Atlantic facility, coupled with AISC certification, compliments the company’s Maine-based fabrication and coating operations, which is additionally endorsed for the more stringent Fracture-Critical fabrications. “This facility with its 250-foot bulkhead on the Inner Harbor strategically positions our company to better serve greater Chesapeake Bay and the surrounding areas,” said Dave Leavitt, Cianbro’s manager of fabrication and coating facilities. “And, achieving this new AISC certification for our Baltimore facility allows our team to take on many new opportunities in the region.” “We have already added 26 new fabrication jobs to the area,” said Charlie Cianchette, Cianbro’s operations services manager. “With a goal of doubling our local fabrication and coating team within the year, Cianbro is dedicated to the development of this region and the prosperity of our team members.” AISC, headquartered in Chicago, is a not-for-profit technical institute and trade association established in 1921 to serve the structural steel design community and construction industry in the United States. AISC’s mission is to make structural steel the material of choice by being the leader in structural-steel-related technical and market-building activities, including: specification and code development, research, education, technical assistance, quality certification, standardization, and market development. AISC has a long tradition of more than 80 years of service to the steel construction industry providing timely and reliable information. Sweeping this year’s top construction industry awards—AGC’s Build America Award and ABC’s Excellence in Construction Award—and the 2004 winner of ACOEM’s Corporate Health Achievement Award, Cianbro is one of the East Coast’s largest civil and heavy industrial construction companies. Employee-owned, Cianbro serves the eastern seaboard from regional offices in Baltimore, Maryland, Bloomfield, Connecticut, and Pittsfield and Portland, Maine. Cianbro is headquartered in Pittsfield, Maine. Cianbro is recognized nationally for its safety and wellness programs. Founded in 1949 by Cianchette brothers Carl, Ken, Bud, and Chuck, Cianbro is one of the most diversified construction companies in the nation with gross annual sales in excess of $300 million and over 2,000 team members throughout the eastern United States.
