PITTSFIELD, Maine — Peter G. Vigue, Cianbro’s President and Chief Executive Officer, is appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors for The Cianbro Companies effective January 1, 2008. On the same date, Peter A. “Andi” Vigue is appointed President and Chief Operating Officer of Cianbro Corporation, one of the East Coast’s largest civil and heavy industrial construction companies.
Cianbro is an employee-owned company with gross annual sales in excess of $425 million. Cianbro operates in approximately 15 states with regional offices in Baltimore, Maryland; Bloomfield, Connecticut; and, Portland and Pittsfield, Maine. Cianbro remains headquartered in the small, central Maine town of Pittsfield, where it was founded in 1949 by Cianchette brothers Carl, Ken, Bud, and Chuck.
Today, Cianbro operations encompass a family of companies including its East Coast construction organization; Fabrication & Coatings Facilities in Pittsfield, Maine, and Baltimore, Maryland; and new Eastern Manufacturing Facility in Brewer, Maine, among other innovative and expanding operations.
Peter G. Vigue, a 37-year Cianbro veteran, has been at the leading edge of much of Cianbro’s growth. Vigue, a Maine Maritime Academy graduate, joined Cianbro in 1970 as a laborer. Working through the ranks, Vigue embraced every Cianbro project as an opportunity to learn and grow. In 1991, the Cianchette brothers decided it was the appropriate time to start transitioning leadership of the company to the next generation, and Pete Vigue was chosen to be President. Vigue became Cianbro’s Chief Executive Officer in 2000.
Peter A. “Andi” Vigue, son of Peter G. Vigue, joined Cianbro in 1990 as a laborer during college. Over the years, Vigue worked through the construction ranks, managed Cianbro’s Fabrication & Coatings Facilities, and most recently served as Senior Vice President of Operations for Cianbro Corporation. Vigue earned B.S. (Civil Engineering) and MBA degrees from the University of Maine.
Ival R. “Bud” Cianchette, Cianbro’s outgoing Chairman of the Board, will now serve as Chairman Emeritus. He and his brother Ken remain active members of Cianbro’s Board of Directors. Older brother Carl passed away in 1997 and younger brother Chuck died in 2000.
“We feel this transition is the right thing for Cianbro’s future,” said Cianchette. “Pete’s and Andi’s commitment and dedication to the Cianbro team and its philosophy is outstanding. We are very proud of them and we are confident that the tremendous growth and successes of our companies, under their leadership, will continue.”
Peter G. Vigue first met the Cianchette brothers over 50 years ago. “They shaped who I am today,” said Vigue. “Cianbro still operates by the philosophy passed down by their father: treat people with dignity and respect, your word is your bond, and give back from which you take. These remain Cianbro’s core values.”
Vigue added, “I am humbled by this honor and accept responsibility as Chairman of the Board to not only ensure Cianbro’s success, but also prepare the next generation. It is with great confidence and pride that I pass on the day-to-day operations of Cianbro Corporation to Andi Vigue. Andi’s contributions to our companies and his successes give me and the other members of our senior management team full confidence in his ability to lead.”
