On February 3rd, 2009, Cianbro reached a milestone for the Kibby Wind Power Project, located in the western mountains of Maine near the Canadian border.  Cianbro Team Members erected their first wooden structure on behalf of TransCanada for a transmission line and substation that will connect the Kibby Mountain Wind Farm to Central Maine Power Company's grid.  The team began clearing a 27 mile right of way at the beginning of the year, a winding path from Kibby Mountain Township to Bigelow.  The project received a cool greeting from Old Man Winter on the first day, when 42 inches of snow fell on the region.  In spite of the elements, project manager Jon Sharp and his team (which will peak at 70 positions) expect to see the transmission line and substation energized by September 1.  When all is said and done, the project will be the largest wind power development in New England, providing enough clean, renewable energy to supply 50-thousand average Maine homes.
