Lincolnville - Islesboro Transfer Bridge Replacement



Scope of Work
Cianbro constructed and erected two replacement ferry terminal transfer bridges and towers including 955 cy of concrete, 23 tons of rebar, 227 tons of structural tower and bridge steel, handrails, pipe bollards, and catwalks. 

Project Details
  • Drove 12 each – 90 ft x12 inch diameter pile and installed anodes
  • Repaired the existing pile encasement
  • Installed coffers as formwork for the new concrete to support additions to the tower foundations
  • Demolished and repaired the abutment and tower foundations 
  • Formed, placed, and stripped new additions to the tower foundations
  • Installed the generator pad and a new 50 kw diesel generator
  • Relocated the site electrical feed, installed new electrical panels and ran underground conduit
  • Pre-wired new hoist towers and bridges
  • Pre-assembled 227 tons of structural bridge and tower steel
  • Erected new hoist towers and bridges

Unique Challenge



Cianbro repaired the concrete foundations while maintaining ferry service to the community of Islesboro. For the scheduled 28 day shutdown in October of 2009 for the installation of the new steel towers and transfer bridges; Cianbro provided an alternate ferry docking location and finished the shutdown ahead of schedule.
