Scope of Work
Cianbro rehabilitated the water conveyance system for a 91-year old hydroelectric facility on the Hoosic River.  

Project Details

• Demolished and removed 560 tons of existing steel pipe 
• Replaced 1,120 lf of 6 ft diameter penstock and 850 lf of 12.5 ft diameter intake pipe—sections weighting up to 36,000 lbs
• Excavated and backfilled 17,000 cy of fill on a 45 % slope 
• Installed new pipeline with a ring girder support system
• Performed 100 % x-ray on all pipe welds with less than 2 % defects
• Replaced the bottom 16 ft of a 40 ft diameter, 52 ft tall surge tank
• Rehabilitated intake cones and replaced 6 ft diameter gate valves
• Selectively demolished and removed two 93 ft spans of truss bridge without impacting the river environment
• Treated all demolished steel with a lead abatement process 
• Drilled and installed relief well system to eliminate artesian water
