Cianbro Team Members Wrap up GMRI Pier Project

On Friday, November 12th, Cianbro crews demobilized the jobsite at the Gulf of Maine Research Institute Pier Project in Portland, Maine. One of the final procedures left to handle was to energize three stations on the pier that will be used by the Coast Guard to service three of their vessels, as of January 2011. The Coast Guard's cutters are each 110 feet long, which means there will be a good 100 feet of additional space on the 440 foot pier to accommodate research projects by the Institute, and the launching of GMRI's vessels.

During the "power up" on Friday, GMRI President Don Perkins thanked the Cianbro team members who participated on the project for a job well done. Mr. Perkins complemented the crews for their expert craftsmanship and attention to detail, the overall quality of the structure, and the efficiency of the team.

Cianbro's Assistant Project Superintendent Pat Sughrue also had words of thanks for his fellow team members, expressing gratitude for their dedication to safety, to the owner, to quality and efficiency.

"You are what make us successful," said Sughrue. "We completed this First Class pier using many innovative methods to provide our client with the BEST quality pier, with the greatest amount of focus on details. I am proud, and thank all of the Cianbro team members involved for such a success. Most importantly, the team worked more than 300 days without a single first aid injury."

The Gulf of Maine Research Institute is planning a ribbon cutting ceremony to dedicate the new pier in the spring of 2011.
