Selected participants will begin their employment with a 3-week educational session in the following discipline. Their focus will be on learning to work as a team, safe work practices, and developing the fundamental skills needed to assist with a specific trade.

Civil: Participants learn about carpenter formwork, rebar, and concrete placement.

In addition to the items above, all participants will learn how to take basic measurements, the proper use of hand and power tools, and equipment operation (aerial, scissor, and forklift).

Upon successful completion of the 3-week program, participants will receive a starter toolbox and a project assignment where they will apply their newly acquired skills while working alongside Cianbro’s craft professionals. Based on performance, these new team members will have the opportunity to receive periodic wage increases and endorsements into one of Cianbro’s formal, long-term apprenticeship programs. Once endorsed, team members will continue to earn a paycheck while they learn and progress towards achieving journey-level proficiency and journey-level wages.

Location: Pittsfield, Maine. Travel may be required upon completion of the program.

The Schedule Engineer works with the project team to provide support for construction operations and schedule deliverables.

Job Responsibilities

• Assist in project scheduling, working with the project schedule to support detailed short and long-term schedules.
• Prepare deliverables to communicate schedule to the client and stakeholders.

Provide technical support related to Quality Assurance & Quality Control to projects, as assigned. Supervise the day-to-day activities of assigned QC Inspectors. Attach cross arms, insulators, and auxiliary equipment to poles. Dig holes and anchor holes using augers, install ground rods, and set poles using cranes and power equipment. Trim trees that could be hazardous to the functioning of cables or wires.
• Assist in pulling cable including double bundle conductor with wire pulling equipment and/or air support by hand from large reels mounted on trucks. Lay underground cable directly in trenches or string it through conduit running through the trenches. Cut trenches for laying underground cables, using trenchers and cable plows.
• Learn to safely install, maintain, and repair electrical distribution and transmission systems, including conductors, cables, sagging, clipping, dead-end terminations, and associated appliances. Climb poles with Lineman's hooks and use truck-mounted buckets to access equipment.
• Learn to open switches or attach grounding devices in order to remove electrical hazards from disturbed or fallen lines or to facilitate repairs. Place insulating or fireproofing materials over conductors and joints. Identify defective sectionalizing devices, circuit breakers, fuses, voltage regulators, transformers, switches, relays, or wiring using and understanding prints, wiring diagrams, and electrical-testing instruments.
• Learn to inspect and test power lines and auxiliary equipment to locate and identify problems, using reading and testing instruments. Test conductors, according to electrical diagrams and specifications to identify corresponding conductors and to prevent incorrect connections.
• Understand basic electrical theory, distribution circuits, 3 Phase AC, interpret blueprints and 1-line drawings and effectively operate a transit. Assist in the training and direction of employees in lower classifications.
• Learn to safely operate various types of transmission and distribution equipment i.e., Digger/Derrick flex track, bucket trucks, wire puller/tensioner.

• Maintain and catalog bid documents and organize estimate information.

Qualifications/ Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Construction Management or equivalent education and field experience.
• 5-10 years of estimating experience with familiarity with heavy civil work, willing to expand knowledge of mechanical and electrical work.
• Experience in one or more of these types of projects: Movable bridges, complex bridges over rail and water, wharfs, bulkheads, sea water rise mitigation projects, mission critical projects for the Navy, and other infrastructure improvement projects. 
• Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office and HCSS are required.
• Must possess excellent communication skills – both verbal and written- with the ability to produce highly professional estimates.
• Successful track record in client relations and upholding impeccable business ethics and standards.
