In 2020, Cianbro completed its first-ever 138kV BOLD® (Breakthrough Overhead Line Design) double circuit transmission line for American Electric Power (AEP). On the first day of the Sorenson-Deer Creek 138 kV BOLD® Transmission Line Rebuild Project, the team agreed that the path to a safe and successful outcome was through collaboration and effective communication, and it paid off. In September, Engineering News-Record (ENR) Midwest awarded Cianbro with the Best Project in the Specialty Construction category for this project.

At the end of 2020, Engineering News-Record (ENR) honored Cianbro with an Award of Merit in its Mid-Atlantic 2020 Best Project Awards in the water/environment category for the Brighton Dam Rehabilitation project in Brookeville, Maryland. The scope of work included resurfacing the concrete spillway of the dam, replacing all of the original intake gates and bar screens, and rehabilitating 13 tainter gates, also known as radial gates.

Cianbro recently received multiple awards for constructing 60 modules for seven individual ethane cracking units (ECU modules) for a brownfield plastic production facility in Pennsylvania.

Cianbro’s Power and Energy Team was recently recognized by American Electric Power (AEP) with the 2020 Contractor Safety Award. The Safety Award is presented annually to AEP’s top three contractors (small, medium, and large contractor categories) and considers contractors from all of AEP’s operating territories.
