• Learn to open switches or attach grounding devices in order to remove electrical hazards from disturbed or fallen lines or to facilitate repairs. Selected participants will begin their employment with a 4-week educational session within the trade of millwright work. Participants of the millwright apprenticeship will learn how to take proper measurements using: a tape measure, scales, steel rules, micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators. Their focus will be on learning to work as a team, safe work practices, and developing the fundamental skills needed to assist with a specific trade.

In addition to the items above, all participants will learn how to take basic measurements, the proper use of hand and power tools, and equipment operation (aerial, scissor, and forklift).

Upon successful completion of the 4-week program, participants will receive a starter toolbox and a project assignment where they will apply their newly acquired skills while working alongside Cianbro’s craft professionals. Based on performance, these new team members will have the opportunity to receive periodic wage increases and endorsements into one of Cianbro’s formal, long-term apprenticeship programs. Once endorsed, team members will continue to earn a paycheck while they learn and progress towards achieving journey-level proficiency and journey-level wages.

• Work together with project supervision on a daily basis to communicate production goals and quality specifications of work, discuss issues that have surfaced (around people, means and methods, material or equipment use, etc. extra or out-of-scope work), and ideas to help the team achieve project goals.
• Participate in planning means and methods.
• Accurately record and report crew work hours and quantities installed. Monitor and manage crew productivity. Ensure ongoing efforts are made to improve productivity.
• Lead the driving and extraction of various steel, concrete, and timber pilings for retaining walls, bulkheads, foundations of bridges and/or piers with both vibratory and impact hammers.
• Proficiency in heavy land based and marine rigging and crane signaling.
• Understanding basics of measurement related to plumbness or batter of pile versus design.
• Understanding of oxy-acetylene torch cutting.
• Knowledge and operation of vibratory and impact pile hammers.
• Comfortable in marine environment working aboard barges, boat, and at heights.
• Proficiency in boat operation is a plus.

Qualifications/Requirements

• Extensive knowledge of heavy civil construction projects.
• 5 plus years of supervisory experience in a heavy civil environment with experience in pile driving.
