Support the construction, installation, and maintenance of high-voltage substation equipment and systems. The Substation Technician is responsible for installing and commissioning substation structures, electrical equipment, raceways, wiring, metering, communications, and protective relaying systems in accordance with project specifications and safety requirements. Utilize strong technical knowledge, rigging experience, and attention to safety to support the reliable and efficient execution of substation construction and maintenance projects.

Job Responsibilities

• Observe and practice all corporate safety policies and procedures.
• Interprets electrical construction blueprints and Elementary Drawings.
• Install substation structures and equipment such as (but not limited to) transformers, switchgear, CCVT, reactors, capacitors, batteries, circuit breakers, Gang operated switches, and apparatus vital to the operation of a substation.
• Install basic electrical below and above grade raceways and wiring.
• Installation of equipment related to metering, communication systems, and relaying systems which include electro-mechanical and solid-state electronic types where applicable.
• Experience with up to 34kv stress cone terminations.
• Experience with Rigging operations.
• Operate vehicles and equipment necessary to perform the job such as Personal lift, Skid Steer, and Reach Truck.
• Recognize and control the hazards involved in working in a substation.
• Must have the majority of the skills and experience listed above.

Qualifications/ Requirements

• Must have 3+ years of experience working on substations.
• Preferred OSHA 1910.269 Certified.
• Knowledge of technical practices in order to plan, layout, and complete maintenance or repair needed for high voltage equipment.
• Skilled in using and maintaining electrical tools and test equipment such as rotation meters, digital test equipment, amp meters, voltmeters, meggers.
• Knowledge of Substation grounding to create an equipotential work zone.
• Skilled in installing protection grounds.

Cianbro’s Transmission & Substation Project Manager oversees the planning, execution, and delivery of high-voltage transmission and substation projects, ensuring they are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with technical and regulatory requirements.

This position provides overall project leadership, coordinating multidisciplinary teams, managing project controls, mitigating risks, and maintaining strong stakeholder relationships throughout the project lifecycle. Job Responsibilities:

• Project Planning & Execution: Develop detailed project plans focusing on scope, schedule, and cost; lead teams through conceptual design, procurement, and construction phases 
• Team Coordination: Manage multidisciplinary teams including engineering, land, environmental, legal, regulatory, procurement, and construction resources 
• Budget & Schedule Management: Control project budgets, track expenditures, and ensure adherence to timelines; prepare RFPs to source engineering, survey, geotechnical, and construction services 
• Risk Management: Identify project risks and implement mitigation strategies; provide regular progress, issue, and risk updates to management 
• Compliance & Safety: Ensure projects meet regulatory, environmental, and safety standards; uphold company safety pledges 
• Stakeholder Communication: Notify stakeholders promptly if budget, schedule, or risk thresholds are exceeded 

Qualifications/Requirements:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field 
• Experience: 3+ years managing electric power projects, preferably with high-voltage transmission lines, cables, and substations 
• Skills: Strong project management, scope/schedule/cost control, risk assessment, and documentation abilities; ability to travel (often 25%) 
• Certifications: PMP or similar project management certification is often preferred.
